Let's get medieval!

 Hello again!

Like I said in last post, I'm working on a small Baron's War army to have a game with a mate some time this year.  I've been chipping away at my troops, one unit at a time.

So far, I've got my peasant levy spearmen done, they're basically just farmers with whatever long pointy implement they had available.

The peasants, pulled from whichever village pulled the short straw this time round...

Second on the billet are the serjeants on foot. As they're not actually nobility, they're wearing livery in the colours of either of the two flags of Brabant (the flag for the Duchy of Brabant is a yellow/golden lion rampant, clawed and tonged in red on a field of black. The other flag, chequered red and white, is the modern flag of Brabant, but can be traced back to the middle ages, so I feel justified in using its colours.) The still to be painted archers will also have tabards or hoods in these colours, over their regular clothing, as a nice bridge between the peasants and the serjeants.

The serjeants, trained fighters in the permanent employ of Brabantine nobles or cities.

As a nice added bonus, the Brewer's Guild militia I painted back in the day for my Fantasy/Dungeoneering project, the ones with spears and pavises/large shields, also have a red-white heraldry, so they can fit in with this force. The sergeant even has the city arms of a local Brabantine city, matching even more perfectly.  They make a nice expansion for this force, as well as a nice bridge between my historical and fantasy medieval project. :)

Left to do are the archers, and my complement of mounted knights. You'll get to see those once I'm done painting them.  Once the weather improves come spring, I want to get to work on some medieval village terrain, as that needs me able to work outside in some degree of comfort.

As I had my paints out, I also did a quick paint job on a bunch of sci-fi Hull Crabs, that had been languishing on my painting table for way to long. Just a quick couple of drybrushes, and some partial glazes with red and blue tones of ink/contrast paints. They'll be fun in things like Necromunda, Five Parsecs, Inq28, maybe even the upcoming game Scrapjacks from the creator of Zona Alfa?

As part of the whole "Medieval stuff is cool" phase, I've also finally finished Kingdom Come Deliverance, and have now started on part two. I bet you can guess why painting is going a bit slower... 😁

This week I've also started playing Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries in co-op with a friend, so there is a none-zero chance some battlemechs will be deployed to the painting table soon as well.

I've also been experimenting with printing some Crimson Skies planes in 1/300, but with mixed succes, the planes are very fiddly to print with any degree of consistent success. A shame, as I'd rather like to put Crimson Skies back on my gaming roster.

So, that's what I've been up to in January, as far as hobbying is concerned.

Wow, time has flown....

Several months of catching up to do... Prepare for a deluge of images!

I did some Fallout stuff:

After a while, interest waned, and I started on some Crimson Skies stuff, namely, printing off some planes I found, and then 3d modeling and printing engine nacelles and broadside bays for my zeppelins (Which I will have to redo, as I dropped them before primering and I'm still waiting for the heartbreak to subside enough to work on them again...)

Having gotten some practice in with Fusion360 again, I settled into another project: making System Ships for Battlefleet Gothic:

They are TINY! That's a 32mm base it's next to:

And since I was making these anyway, I might as well start printing stuff for BFG again:

Including ordnance (SO FIDDLY!)

As well as some large scale fun:

My friends and me also got a period of renewed interest in cyberpunk, resulting in this:

We planned to each have one of these appartments printed, so we could paint it, and have a basis for a city board. Due to some issues with the filament printer, the last two still need to be printed. I'm currently ironing out and re-tuning after replacing the entire hot end...

I also finally figured out how I could do the banners on my Reaver, so that project is moving forward again as well (once more, waiting on troubleshooting the filament printer)...

Since I had a week off, and was in a holding pattern regarding 3d printing, I finally got to painting some stuff:

The fruits of a week of painting, I got a LOT done!

Some close ups of the large (1/10.000 scale) BFG escorts:

And that brings us up to this month.

I'm working on the dismounted crew for my Titans:

And I stayed with the BFG theme:

I also fired up Fusion360 again, and got to work designing an Orbital Dock:

This model, along with my System Ships, are up on my Cults3D page

Now that is done, I'm working on a set of Orbital Defence Platforms, again, in the extra-gothic style:

Test prints are currently running, once these print satisfactorily, they'll go up on Cults3D as well.

Thanks for your patience, both in waiting for this post, and in viewing it!

See you next time!

Another month, another report.

 Hello again,

Let's see what I've been up to this past month, shall we?

I've done some more on the Fallout project:

Still a fair bit to do on this project, but it seems to have petered out for the moment. I'll get back to it in a bit, I guess.

A commission 3d print and an invitation to a Rogue Trader RPG set me on the course of  Battlefleet Gothic once more.
This time I wanted to do some 1:10000 scale display models:
A size comparison: A Sword Escort, vs Starhawk Bomber, Fury Fighter, Aquila Lander and Arvus Lighter (back to front)

A Cruiser at 1:10000 scale. I won't be printing one of those for a while!!!

The large scale escorts, together with a print of the Eiffel Tower and Enterprise D, to give a sense of size and scale.

And with Brother Forscale to give an idea of the model size.

I hope to basecoat these three the coming weekend.

I also printed a rough and ready Aquila Lander, to use as terrain and or an objective for Killteam/Necromunda/Inq28 games:

Not my cleanest print, or assembly, but great for a run-down "army surplus" type craft.

Next up, more big boys, but this time in proper BFG scale: Glorianas for my Imperial and Chaos fleet. These were created by Soul Forge Studios, who do excellent 3d printing files through their Patreon and MyMiniFactory

Yes, that small thing in front of it is a regular size Battlefleet Gothic Cruiser...

Time for another gear shift, this time towards Crimson Skies.

First I printed some planes:

Years ago, I had bought two Zeppelins, with the intention to convert them for Crimson Skies. But I never quite found a satisfactory way to model the engine nacelles and broadside cannons... But hey, I have a resin printer now, and know a bit of Fusion360!

And that solved a nearly two decades old modelling conundrum!  Now to just decide the colour scheme for them...

That's it, see you next time!
