Time is an illusion...

Hello again, time does seem to slip away from us, doesn't it?

I have been hobbying, but at a leisurely pace, and part of it digitally. My inspiration/drive has been all ove rthe place though.  And they say an image says more than a thousand words. So, lets get to the pictures, after the break:

Had a bit of a (short lived) resurgence of interest in Weird War II:

What could these wheels be for?

Now this might look a bit familiar... But it won't quite be in the end...

Here is where it starts getting a bit weirder...

And the final product:

It's a Weird War II Kubelwagen-Walker! It's in 1/56 / 28mm scale.
If you want the model, it's on my Cults3d page.

Around the time I was finishing that project off, a video by MS Paints rekindled my interest in Battlefleet Gothic.  So I once again started modelling stuff and dug out my supplies/works in progress to paint:

At some point the ship above will become the Nicor, the Grand Cruiser flagship of the Carcharodons Space Marine Chapter. I didn't plan this build out beforehand, so I'm deciding things as I go along. While nice and free form, it does mean I regularly need to take breaks from it to ponder things and percolate inspiration.

Orbital Mines...

Nice weather meant I could airbrush outside for a couple of days:

After that, the weather got too hot and muggy, so painting was on hold for a bit. At the same time my interest shifted a bit to Kill Team/skirmishes in 40K away from the battlefield.
Meanwhile the printer worked on another project.
Floor tiles for a Zone Mortalis set. The idea is to keep the floor tiles as flat as possible, for ease of storage, and to build the zone mortalis from modular parts on top of it.

As the heat was building, it was more comfortable to sit at the PC, next to the glorious airflow of an oscillating fan..   And my current interests in Grimdark skirmish, Battlefleet Gothic and Fusion 360 merged into my current project. 3D modelling a 28mm scaled Arbites Patrol Skiff, a heavy transorbital anti-grav vehicle used for enforcement, patrols and contraband searches.
Maximizing the grimdark gothicness and brutal intimidation of the Arbites, I want to design it as if it was modelled after larger vessels.
I'm using this image as inspiration:

This is the current state of the model:
The five gothic arches on its flanks are hatches that fold down into short gangplanks, allowing the arbites to deploy by stepping off onto another vessel, or simply making a grav-chute drop. They also allow a full squad of 10 Arbites to disembark without getting in each other's way.
(I wasn't fully happy with the back fin, so in later images that has been remodelled.)

In this image you can just make out one of the grav-plates on the bottom of the Skiff.

This is the current state of the model:
I'm just flitting from part to part, as, and when, the inspiration guides me. The large circle on the top is where a turret with twin heavy autocannons or light battle cannons will mount.
The drums on the side are sponsons, containing twin linked heavy weapons (I'm thinking Lascannons, Autocannons or maybe even Plasma Cannons).  The interior will contain a small brig in the prow of the ship. I might also add removable benches for the arbites. If the muse stays around long enough, I may even add some other swappable options?
I'm challenging myself to model the ship with printing and assembly in mind. My current plan is to make the turret, sponsons and hatches in the arches movable, and include a lift-off roof for the main crew compartment.
For now, I'm planning on keeping the cockpit closed and undetailed, to keep the project somewhat achievable and prevent me from intimidating myself/risking overtasking myself with decisions to make and details to build...

For the next week or so, the weather will be all over the place, so I'll be painting BFG when the weather allows, and otherwise working on either the Skiff or the Nicor.

See you again next time!
