In the Majestic Emperor's Name!

Or something like that...

Anyway, what I'm getting at is mashing up two similar rulesets, so I can use the setting of one, but with the rules of the other...

In previous post, I mentioned In the Emperor's Name, a 40K skirmish ruleset, and In Her Majesty's Name, a VSF branch of the same rule-tree.
IHMN is, in my eyes, the more polished and flexible ruleset, so I'd prefer using that, as I can also use it for a lot of my other gaming interests. So porting the 40K style of ItEN to IMHN should be effortless, no? Well, ItEN is d6 based, and IHMN d10 based, so a lot of values are skewed by this.

The last couple of days I've been comparing stats (weapons and figures mainly), trying to find parallels and extrapolating the rest.

Below is what I've got so far. There are still a lot of blanks, especially in the troops segment, as I need to compare and guesstimate them one by one... To be honest, I'm currently prioritizing the troops that I have a personal interest in, and those that are easiest to translate. The rest will follow later.
I'm not certain at all if all my stats are accurate because of two simple reasons: They aren't yet tested, this is just a first draft. And, I'm not precisely fluent in IHMN (or ItEN) yet, I've yet to get some games in. I should start looking for victi..., no, oppon..., no....,erm, fellow gamers, so I can finally give it a go.
So, if you have any comments, feedback or suggestions, please let me know!

Anyway, here's the crunch:
(Update: Added the points cost where I had enough data to calculate them.)

Dev Note: Idea for translating SV mod from ItEN to IHMN for Ranged Weapons: Pistol = ItEN +0, Basic Weapon = ItEN +1, Heavy Weapon = ItEN +2, max 5. Maybe Basic Weapon is also ItEN +2?
Translating Pluck Penalty from ItEN to IHMN: ??? Seems to be, on average, 1 higher than in ItEN?

Based on current known data, a Space Marine (28) in Power Armour (36) with Bolt Pistol(?), Bolter(?), Chainsword (5) and 2 Frag Grenades (2x6) would cost:
81 points, plus the cost of Bolter and Bolt Pistol…. Expensive Dudes! (81 +9 boltpistol + 10 boltgun =100 points for a fully laden Tactical Marine!) This means it’s 3 guardsmen + an extra grenade to equal a Marine….)

A Sister of Battle(17) in Power Armour (36) , with a Flamer(11), knife(4)  and 2 Frag Grenades (2x6)would cost: 80 points.
A Guardsman (6)  in Flak (2) , with a Lasgun(9) , knife (4)  and 2 Frag Grenades (2x6) would cost: 33 points.

Oh, and to be on the safe side:

1 opmerking:

  1. ItEN was written to reflect the W40K we old Rogue Traders fell in love with back in the 80's. It also lives to replicate the forces described in the numerous and mostly excellent novels. Thus we have Zoats and Squats! Shocked

The stat's for Space Marines were discussed at length by the Forge of War development community. Eventually we mostly agreed that eight-foot super-humans in nearly impenetrable armour, and carrying the equivalent of heavy machine guns as sidearms, should be as shown in ItEN.

As for using IHMN for W40K please go ahead Cheesy. Not though you need it you do have my blessing. I always support creativity in gaming.

You'll have quite a bit of work to do to balance it though as IHMN was designed to meet the requirements and technology of 1895 (with a VSF twist), whereas ItEN was designed from the ground up to suit W40K. Also ItEN has recently been overhauled by Gavin and the crew to take into account all the lessons they had learned from hundreds of playtests by the FoW community. I had no input into the 3rd Edition so all credit goes to them.

I'll drop by to see what you are up to by and by.

Note: if you do publish anything on your blog or elsewhere, cut and paste in the disclaimer I agreed with GW, out of the ItEN rules. GW can get sniffy if you don't show the appropriate respect bro'.

    Cheers,
    Craig.
